How SEO Changed in 2016

There were a lot of things that changed about SEO during 2016, but the three largest were Google’s Penguin 4.0
update, the dominance of mobile over desktop, and the growth of voice search. All three are important for staying competitive.

Penguin 4.0 drastically increased how quickly Google updated its search index, meaning that it catches bad links quicker, but also that it notices positive changes faster. Google also shifted how it indexes sites: before it would treat the desktop version of a site as the default. Now, it uses the mobile version. Voice searches became a big part of search, totaling 20% of all searches on Android.

Looking to the Future

The SEO game is always changing: new social media services, new search algorithms, new ways of creating content. We think 2017 is going to be an even bigger year than 2016, and we’re excited to keep up with the latest news and changes coming in the new year.

For every company and organization, it’s important to stay focused on the long term, and the dawn of a new year is a very good time to think about what still needs to be accomplished. We hope you’re successful in the coming year and look forward to meeting you in 2017!
